Samseong-gung is located on the slope of Mt. Jirisan in Cheonghakdong, Mukgye-ri, Cheongam-myeon, Hadong-gu. A lot of great scholars such as Choe Chi Won and Doseon Guksa indicated this place as the most divine area in Korea. Samseong-gung, meaning palace of three saints, is placed to worship Hwanin, Hwanung and Dangun, who are related to the found of Korea/ It also worship the founders of each dynasty, the first ancestors of each family name, and other scholars and soldiers in the ling Korean history.
Gaeguk-jeon, the center of first built by Hanpul Seonsa, who practiced here with his students with a good surrounding landscape of stone towers and ponds, it became a favorite tourist attraction together with Cheonghakdong nearby.
There is a rule to tour Samseong-gung as this is a sacred place. A stone Jing(Korean musical instrument) is hanging on the tree at the entrance of Samseong-gung. If visitors knock this Jing three times, a ascetic and guide comes to greet. After hearing some instructions to follow, one of the visitors shall put on the coat which the guide brought. Visitors shall give rite before looking around Samseong-gung. Entering the palace, visitors see plenty of stone towers piled up for decades, and find the traditional housings and the roots of the Korean race. Following the walks on the slope, visitors see some cozy ponds. Tour course 'Baedalgi' and walk sign are provided.
The founder Haupul Seonsa, with his students, piled up about 1,000 stone towers(or poles). The top of each stone tower has a different shape; wild goose, pot, traditional millstone and so on. They are still piling the stones and planning to continue until they have 3,333 towers.
