Nammangsan International Sculpture Park

Tongnyeong-gun built Nammangsan International Sculpture Park in the area of Nammangsan park(15,700m2, about 5,000 pyeong). It aimed to enhance the citizens pride and tourism income by developing Tongyeong as a global marine, cultural and tourism city related to Mireukdo Tourism specialized District. The Sculpture was completed under the construction of 3 months (July 1, 1997 to September 30) with the total working expenses of 1.6 billion won (0.5 billion for infra-structure, 1.1 billion for symposium).
The sculpture park consists of the works of 15 world famous sculptors on its spacious land (5,000 pyeong), which has outstanding landscape harmonized with the sea. Each work enlightens infinite imagination, a hope toward the unknown world and relief. The works also clears off the fatigue of body and soul. Citizen's Cultural Center, opened in October, 1997, is a modern building with a big theater(1,000 seats), a small theater(290 seats) and a swimming pool.
The internal Sculpture and Citizens' Cultural center give an outdoor cultural space. In Nammangsan Sculture Park stands a monument of a poet Yu Chi Hwan, whose hometown is Tongyeong. His famous poet 'Flag' is inscribed on the monument. From the observatory, you see large and small islands floating on the south sea. The view of sun rising from the island is impressing.
