Jangboksan Park is located on the slope of Mt. Jangbaesan surrounding the downtown. It is also situated at the end of Jangbokno Road connecting Masan to Jinhae. From the park you can see downtown of Jinhae Bay at a glance. When Mt. Jangboksan was damaged by Typhoon July in 1979, Jinhae-gun built this park. There are two walks: one(1.5km) from Jinhae Girls' School to the park and the other(1km)Jangboksan Rest Area to Gomajin Tunnel Daegwangsa and Jinheungsa Temples are nearby. In spring, the park shows its best beauty with a harmony of the thick forest and about 10,000 plants of cherry blossoms.
The cherry trees in Jinhae were planted during the Japanese colonial period. As the cherry tree is Japanese national flower, it was not cared by Koreans. One botanical scholar found out that King cherry trees originated Jeju island. Since then Jinhae city planted the cherry trees for landscaping.
During Gunhangje Festival in each April, families and lovers, old and young, enjoy the romance under the cherry tunnel. There is Youth center in the forest and octagonal pavilion and benches in the park. The flood disaster monument was built to memorize 8 naval polices who devoted their lives to save 3,000 civilians just before the tunnel's collapse in 1979.
From the summit of Mt. Jangboksan, you see the islands Geojedo, Jamdo, Jeodo, Samseon and Gadeokdo at one glance. It takes 2.5 hours to climb up the mountain and down to the park.
Jinhae Park Land established in the park is loved by the citizens of JInhae, Masan and Changwon as a playground and rest area. It is equipped with about 20 recreation facilities including Viking as well as water slides and winter slides. As there are also exhibition halls, this place is frequented by groups of families.
