Donghangpo Tourist Site

Danghangpo is a battle field where Admiral Lee Sun Shin gained a great victory. In July, 1592, Korean neval forces under the commend of Admiral Lee defeated 26 Japanese ships in Danghangpo with the turtle ship ahead. Two years later Admiral Lee defeated again 31 Japanese ships here in Danghangpo. Danghangpo victory is recorded as one of the 5 big battles during Omjinwaeran. During the 1st World War, the turtle ship was put into war for the third time. Danhangpo is an instructive battle site as Admiral Lee's patriotism royalty and his strategy were melt in Danghangpo naval battle. To succeed the high spirit of Admiral Lee, Goseong-gun designated this place as a National Tourist Compound in 1984, Goseong-gun sanctified Danghang-ri and Bondong-ri as Admiral Lee's naval battle remains, before it opened the tourist compound. Danghangpo Tourist compound is 10 minutes apart from the port along the winding coastal road from Baedun village. Major facilities include Sungchungsa, which enshrines Admiral Lee's portrait and 20m high Daecheop Memorial Monument. It is also equipped with recreation facilities such as marine sports facilities and adventure ground, where young students get training and adventure. Natural History Museum exhibits stuffed animals, dinosaurs eggs and fossils of fish and shells.
Nature and Art Garden consists of a sculpture park with wild flowers and exhibition of plants and stones on the pot. There are also agricultural relic exhibition, folk game experience ground, a totem pole park, 100-million-year ago ripple trees, foot prints of dinosaurs and foreshore experience field. Equipped with all these facilities, Donghangpo is a multi-purpose tourist site.
