Nammyeong was born in 1501 in his grand mother's in Samga-myeon, Hapcheon-gun. After married he moved to Gimhae, built Sanhaejeong pavilion and studied. Later he came back to Samga and taught students. At the age of 61, he came to Sancheong. Sancheong-keeps the righteous spirit of Mt. Jirisan, which is similar to schoolastic ground. He built Sancheongjae at Sa-ri, Sicheon-myeon and devoted himself to raising students. His scholar was known to the central government and was called several times for government position. However, he didn't accept them and stayed here until he died 71 years old.

After his death, he gained the rank of Saganwon Daesagan, and further gained a prime minister position in 1615(7th year of Gwanghaegun). While Toegae Lee Hwang admired 'Righteousness', he raised about 100 students. More than half of them devoted their lives to protect the nation in the Imjinwaeran. This proves that his scholarship is practical as well as admires righteousness. Gwakje-u, the general in red, is the most famous among his students.
Sacheonje is on the slope of Mt. Jirisan where the clean water of Deokcheongang flows ceaselessly. Sancheongje houses the collection of his books. Behind the building is his tomb and monument. In Won-ri Sicheon-myeon nearby stands Deokcheon Seowon(confucian academy) which his students Jeong In Hong and choe Yeong Gyeong built to worship Nammyeong. The original building was destructed by Daewon-gun. Today's building was rebuilt in the early 20C by the confucious scholars in Sancheong area. Nammyeong's remains include Sancheon-jae, Deokcheon Seowon, Sesimjeong, Byeol-myo, Sindo-bi and the tomb site.

On the way to Goryeong from Jimju, you see woldam Jeongsahyeon Remains. The remains have the tomb of Nammyeong's sister and the tomb and tombstone of her husband, Woldam Jeong Sa Heon. Nammyeong often visited this place and wrote poems with Woldam. In the vicinity are the residents of Jeom Pil Jae and Kim Jong Jik, where their descendants still live rigid lives with the steep spirit of scholars. There are more places keeping Nammyeong remains: Hapcheon Hambyeoknu and Noeryongjeong. Hambyeoknu is a pavilion built in the riverside of Hwanggong River, where you can appreciate the poem 'Hambyeoknu' by Nammyeong and the poem by Toegae. Nammyeong-jeong pavilion is the place which keeps Nammyeon's will to prevent human's greed and to keep his conciousness clean by watching three human gates of eyes, mouth and ears.
