Sangjokam

Sangjokam is a huge protrusion of rock in the sea of Deokseong-ri, Hai-myeon, Goseon-gun. The lower part of the rock cliff makes a cave being carved by waves.
From the distance it looks like a flat stone table. So it is called Sangjokam, which means 'Table Leg Rock'. Wide base rocks and rock formations make valleys of the scenic view. The stratified rock cliff looks like thousands of books piled up, which reminds of Chaesokgang in Byeonsan Peninsular. The lower part of the cliff has several oddly-shaped caves made by wave erosion. There are more rock formations such as Candlestick Rock, Screen Rock and Seonnyeotang, where Seonnyeo(angels) bathed. Out of the caves there is a huge flat base rock, where hundreds of people take rest at once. This rock is very clean as it is washed by the tide and waves all the time.
The footprints of dinosaurs are found on the huge base rock when the tide is low.
The villagers call Sangjokam as 'Ssangbal'. They believe that the name Sangjokam is also related with footprints of dinosaurs. There are 3,000 footprints on the 6km coast ranging from 30cm long to and 2~3cm deep one. Some footprints have a shape of a fork and some have oval shapes. There are also 247 traces that one dinosaur walked more than 3 steps. The footprints sink under water in the high tide, so it's better to stay overnight or to check the tide in advance in order to see the footprints.
