Mongdol Beach

Mongdo Beach is a 1.8km long beach of pebbles in Hakdong(Crane Village), which is so named as it looks like a crane flying up to the sky. Different from other beaches of silver-shining sands, Mongdol Beach is covered with round pebbles looking like black pearls. Especially the harmony of white water bubbles of waves and black pebbles attracts visitors.
Though it's hard to walk on the pebbles, it is fun to listen to the sound of steps walking on them. The rolling sound of pebbles on this beach is selected as one of "The most beautiful sounds 100 of Korea" in 2001 by the Ministry of Environment. As the pebbles are round, they are safe for children. They also give pressure effect to feet when walked on barefoot. Therefore, it is a nice beach for family to enjoy together. As camping is prohibited, tourists use accommodations nearby.
In the vicinity is Haegeungang(Geungang of the sea) and a camellia forest(Natural Monument No. 233), Geoje natural resort forest and a cruise tour course. Fishing is available. The main fish caught here is flounders. There is a cruise deck on the beach, with 4 cruises running from Haegeumgang, Oedo to Mongdol Beach. They hold 'Gorosoe(painted maple) Festival' in February and marine sports match including a yacht race and entertainers' celebrating concerts in the late June.
