Daewonsa Temple, Mt. Jirisan
In 548(9th year of king Jinheung, the Silla Dynasty), Monk Yeongijosa built Pyeongwonsa Temple on the eastern foot of Mt. Jirisan. The temple had been closed for more then 1,000 years. Monk Ungwonseonsa brought his fellow monks in the 11th year of king Sukjong, the Joseon Dynasty, built a new temple on the site of Pyeongwonsa and named it Daewonam, which became a Buddhist school(auditorium) of Yeongnam.
In the 27th year of king Gojong a hermitage of Hyeheunseonsa was collapsed and rebuilt. After rebuilding Josayeongdan on the west and establishing an abbot's chamber and auditorium on the east, they renamed the temple as Daewonsa. A great monk was invited to preach and monks gathered from all over the nation.

There are two legendary places, Yongso and Somakgol; the pond where a dragon lived for 100 years and went up to heaven and the village where king Gubyeong the last king of the Garakguk, lived here feeding cattle and horses respectively.
