| Description | The festival has been held in the purpose of showing the superiority of Geochang apples since 1995. Through this festival farmers publicize their apples, find new markets, enhance expenditure and further promote their incomes. It also helps to develop Geochang apples as a local specialized industry. Taking a pride in its high mountains and clean water, Geochang has been known as a home of scholars and still remains abundant cultural heritages and scholastic spirits. Geochang had its present name in 757A.D.(16th year of King Gyeongdeok ,the Shilla Dynasty). Before that it was called Geoyeol, Geota, or Arim, which mean the wide field of clean water. The festival holds contests of peeling apples, eating apples fast, folklore games like Yutnori and tug of war, and exhibitions of apple-related photos, poems and paintings. There are also painting contest, apple singing contest, apple competitive show & display, apple event, apple free sampling & sales, displaying apple farm machines, married women singing contest. The festival also has an export consulting with foreign buyers for apple marketing promotion and a direct sales event for domestic merchants. The festival aims to develop apples into the local specialty. Tourists can have as many of these sweet apples as they please in the folklore games and the eating contest during the festival. |
