| Description | Started with a slogan of " Masan into the World, Theatre into the World", Masan International Theatre Festival aims to develope the local culture through the internationalization of the theatres. The theatrical troupe "Masan" started a theatre festival named "National Small Theater Festival" in 1989, and introduced famous troupes to Masan. "Masan" spreads out its area to the world theatre by inviting Japanese theater group and having a local performance in Japan since the 3rd festival. Since the 8th festival, it has invited and expanded mutual exchanges with the theatre troupes from America, Japan, Germany, France, Russia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Canada and Bulgaria, making Masan considered as a worldwide theatre city. "Masan" had also local performances 6 times in Japan. In 1996 it held an International Theatre Festival with participants from 10 nations including America. The participating troupes proved the possibility of mutual exchanges by showing each country's traditional plays based on its folklores and legends, and modern situational plays containing their symbolic gestures. Masan International Theatre Festival plays an important role to make Masan memorized as "A Theatre City of the World". This festival is held in the private teather of "Masan" in Jungang-dong and the Masan MBC Performance Hall in Yangdeok-dong. |
