The festival offers the opportunity to learn the history of wild tea and experience Korean tea culture and presents the unforgettable memory through the visit of cultural heritages. Hadong Hwagye, as the first tea cultivation site, has climate and soil proper to cultivate tea plants. Dagyeong(Tea Bible) says that the tea plant growing from the chasm of rocks is best. The tea plant in Hadong grows in the rock chasm on the mountain slope. The roots grow straight, so if it is replanted on other place, it withers. Old Korean women has customs to take tea seeds for a marriage item as a symbol of fidelity. To make high quality of Hadong handmade tea, pick tea leaves on sunny days of April to June, roast them in the traditional iron pot, rub them on the straw mat three to seven time and dry. Prepare the tea water one night before, boil it and cool down to 60~80¡ÆC, pour the water to the tea leaves, and infuse 1~3 minutes. A bowl of tea clears off the fatigue of body and soul with its soft flavor, color, and fragrance. |
